MUSIC THEORY Lessons

Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform with sensitivity, awareness and control. (ABRSM Website) Theory lessons are integrated into piano lessons from Grades 1-5 and taught separately from practical lessons from Grade 6 onwards. 

Lessons follow the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabus.  Students progress through the grades by taking internal theory exams run by the studio or sitting for an official ABRSM Music Theory exam. ABRSM Music Theory exams are open to learners of any age. You can start with any grade and skip grades if you want to. 

If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam. This is to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades. (ABRSM Website)
